Is it safe to send influencer outreach from your own Gmail?

7 min readView as Markdown

Sending influencer outreach from your own Gmail through Cheerful is designed to be safe for the mailbox: each connected mailbox is paced at about 30 emails a day while it is new and about 50 a day once it is established, with first emails and follow-ups sharing that one budget, sent in small irregular bursts inside a daytime window. Cheerful requests Gmail send, modify and label permissions plus your basic profile, and stores the Google token encrypted.

Those numbers are deliberately well under Google’s own daily sending limits. Cold outreach damages a mailbox by looking like a burst of automated mail, not by hitting a hard cap, so the pace is what matters. The rest of this page is the detail behind that answer, and the things that are still your responsibility.

Cheerful paces outreach from each connected Gmail mailbox at about 30 emails a day for a new mailbox and about 50 a day for an established one, with first emails and follow-ups sharing the same daily budget.

How many emails a day does Cheerful send from my Gmail?

MailboxDaily pace
Established mailbox (14 days or older)About 50 a day, varied by up to 20% day to day.
New mailbox (first 14 days)A 30-a-day target, starting at 30% of it and rising evenly over two weeks.
Several mailboxes on one campaignEach has its own budget, and new creators are spread across them.

A mailbox’s age is taken from whichever is older: the day you connected it, or the earliest email Cheerful has synced from it. A Gmail account with years of history is treated as established on day one rather than warmed up again from scratch.

The budget is all-in. First emails and scheduled follow-ups come out of the same daily number, so adding a follow-up sequence slows how fast new creators are contacted rather than doubling the volume. Replies to creators who wrote to you are not held back by it. To send more, add another mailbox.

When does Cheerful send, and why not all at once?

Sends go out in bursts of two to four emails, one to just over three minutes apart, followed by a break sized to spread the rest of the day’s budget evenly. A campaign that has no send window of its own sends between 7am and 9pm US Eastern. You can set a campaign’s own window and time zone, including business hours or weekdays only.

Follow-ups are sent as replies in the original thread, with standard reply headers, so the creator sees one conversation. Messages go out as plain text with an HTML version, and Cheerful does not add open-tracking pixels or rewrite links for click tracking.

What Google permissions does Cheerful ask for?

  • gmail.send, to send outreach, follow-ups and replies as you.
  • gmail.modify, to read threads so replies can be picked up and drafted against, and to keep message state in step.
  • gmail.labels, to manage labels on the messages it handles.
  • Your email address and basic profile, to know which account is connected.

It does not request access to Google Drive, Calendar or Contacts through this connection. The Google refresh token is encrypted before it is stored, using AES-256-GCM tied to your account and that record.

Should I use a separate domain for cold outreach?

For small, targeted campaigns, sending from a named person on your main domain gets the best replies, and the pace above is built for that. For high-volume cold outreach, many teams keep it off the main domain. Cheerful can register a separate outreach domain for you on a paid plan, create the mailboxes on it, set up the DNS records and warm the mailboxes up. A new domain’s daily cap starts at 30 and only rises while its bounce and complaint rates stay healthy.

What is still my responsibility?

  • Domain authentication. SPF, DKIM and DMARC on your own domain matter more than anything a sending tool does.
  • The list. Cheerful stops a creator from getting the same campaign twice and never re-queues an address that bounced in that campaign, but adding the same person to a new campaign will contact them again.
  • The message. There is no spam-content checker. A brief that produces pushy, templated emails will be treated as such by recipients and by Gmail.
  • Access. Anyone with access to the mailbox can see and send from it. Use a mailbox whose access list you are comfortable with.

What this does not do

  • The daily pace can be raised for a specific mailbox only by the Cheerful team; there is no self-serve setting to raise it.
  • Removing a mailbox in Cheerful stops it being used, but does not revoke Google’s access. Remove Cheerful at myaccount.google.com as well if you want the token withdrawn.
  • Duplicate protection is per campaign. The same creator added to a second campaign can be contacted again.
  • There is no open or click tracking, so reply rate, not open rate, is the metric to watch.
  • Microsoft Outlook has no native sign-in; this page describes Gmail and Google Workspace.

Frequently asked questions

It is designed to be. Each mailbox is paced at about 30 emails a day while new and about 50 once established, in small bursts inside a daytime window, and the Google token is stored encrypted. Cheerful asks only for Gmail send, modify and label access plus your basic profile.

About 50 a day from an established mailbox and a ramp toward 30 a day for a new one, with first emails and follow-ups sharing that budget. To send more, add more mailboxes; each gets its own budget.

No tool can promise that, but Cheerful’s pacing is built to avoid the pattern that causes it: low daily volume per mailbox, irregular bursts, no overnight sending by default, and follow-ups in the same thread. Your domain’s SPF, DKIM and DMARC records and the quality of the list matter as much.

No. Cheerful does not insert tracking pixels or rewrite links. Measure outreach by replies.

The gmail.modify permission lets Cheerful read mail in the connected account, which it needs to detect and draft against creator replies. Use a mailbox dedicated to creator work if you would rather keep other mail out of reach.

Remove the mailbox in Cheerful’s settings to stop it being used, then remove Cheerful from your Google account’s third-party access page to revoke the token.
